The story so far…
In just a few short days, something incredible has happened.
What began as shock and disappointment over the planned closure of Kingscourt School has transformed into something much more powerful: an empassioned but not sentimental movement to explore, and wherever possible, secure the future of our school led by its parents, staff, and friends.
From day one, our community has shown what it means to stand up for something we believe in. We’ve rallied, we’ve organised, and we’ve started to lay the foundations for what we hope will be a new chapter for Kingscourt. Not just as a school, but as a place built by and for the families it serves.
What We’ve Done So Far
Formed the Friends of Kingscourt steering group, comprising parents and carers who have offered their professional skills.
Engaged with Cognita to assess the financial viability of continuing with Kingscourt as an independent school.
Launched a feasibility study into establishing Kingscourt as a going concern
Explored the possible sale of Kingscourt as a going concern with interested third parties.
Consulted with legal and financial advisers to understand the options and obligations
Established a series of working groups dedicated to exploring fully the options for Kingscourt’s future.
Why It Matters
Kingscourt isn’t just a school. It’s where children discover their confidence, where families build friendships, and where values like kindness, creativity, and resilience are taught every day. Preserving that matters deeply.
Our children deserve consistency. Our staff deserve transparency. And our community deserves a voice.
What’s Next?
Friday 9th May at 3pm (school main hall) - Meeting with parents to provide comprehensive update.
We have a series of meetings this week with the following:
Cognita - to go through financial breakdown & present business plan
Educational institution to discuss potential purchase of Kingscourt
Other Investors.
We’re developing a business plan and proposals to share with Cognita and other stakeholders that reflect our collective vision for the future of Kingscourt.
We know this road won’t be easy—but we also know we’re not walking it alone.
If you’d like to get involved, volunteer your skills, or simply offer encouragement, please get in touch. Together, we’re not just trying to save a school. We’re building something even stronger: a future shaped by the very people who care most about it.
With heartfelt thanks,
Friends of Kingscourt Committee
